VELACHERY MALAYALEE ASSOCIATION :

 Formed three years back by the residents of Velachery., Chennai.

Total members – 100 Families and growing !

  Programmes conducted so far - two blood donation camps every year, with the co-operation of Royappettah General Hospital, an eye camp where free cataract surgery is carried over with the co-operation of Hindu Mission Hospital, Tambaram. A cancer fund raising programme conducted 2 years back on the occasion of Onam and donated 2 lakhs to Adyar Cancer Hospital. Dr. Shantha honoured us with her presence. Orphanage children were also invited as audience for the musical fund raising programme, conducted at Kamaraj Arangam. Donated 1000  note books and geometry boxes to the students of Chennai Secondary school , Rajalakshmi Nagar, Velachery. Given free napkins, food suplements etc to an infant orphonage (thapasiya) at Mogapair.  Given grocery items and blankets to old age home at Mogapair.

 Programme for this year:

1000 books and 200 dictionaries to the Chennai Secondary school, Velachery.  Conducting a health check up camp and giving away health cards with the co-operation of Apollo Hospital, Chennai, to the same school.  Conducting an eye camp and giving away free spectacles to the needy children, with the co-operation of Sankara Hospital,Pallavaram.

 A cultural extravaganza of Kerala art forms - Kathakali , mohiniyattam, thiruvathirakkali, mimics parade was organised on September 12th and brought out a souvenir also on the same day.

 Future programme:

Trying to adopt the Chennai Secondary Schools of  Velachery for the upliftment of the unprivileged and other important social issues.
